Alicia Kendig
Major/Department:
Nutrition
Current Position:
I'm a graduate student at Case in the public health nutrition, maternal and infant program.
Biography:
I'm originally from Bogota, Colombia, but I grew up in Lancaster, PA. I have been a competitive swimmer up until this year when I graduated. I started taking graduate classes last year when I decided to stay at Case to pursue a master's degree in public health nutrition. I had an internship in corporate wellness and continue to work on a research project in the department of behavioral pediatrics.
What was the most important thing you learned while attending Case?:
You never really lose contact with the department of your major and the professors. They are so willing to introduce you to other professionals in the field and help you figure out positions and experiences that fit you best.
What advice would you give to current or prospective students?:
Make sure you find the field of study that interests you the most. Many students come into Case with one intended major and realize that another area interests them more. Make sure to take the opportunity to explore all your options. The professors and other students are here to help you with that.
Why did you choose to attend Case?:
Case has an excellent reputation, due to its hard working students and dedicated professors. I heard about many positive experiences that students have had with teachers in their departments that helped them grow as both students and professionals. The level of competition in the athletic department also brought me in. The athletes at Case are there to work hard and are motivated to succeed.
What was the best thing about your Case experience?:
The closeness of the faculty with the students. I never felt rushed or overlooked in my classes.
In what ways would you like to see Case improve?:
During my undergrad years at Case, I saw great improvements in the athletic department, but I think there are always ways to improve publicity and support from the school.
What are your classmates up to now?:
Many are continuing their education. Many are staying in Cleveland, while others are heading off to law school, medical school, and other grad programs across the country. I must say that Case did an excellent job in setting them up for these experiences. Many are going into well known programs that are pretty impressive.
