Pre-Professional Scholars Program
Pre-Professional Scholars Program

You’ve always known that you wanted to be a doctor, dentist, lawyer or social worker. You’re applying to college, but really have your eye on professional school. Our Pre-Professional Scholars Program (PPSP) grants conditional admission to a Case professional school (dental medicine, law, medicine and social work) for a very select group of first year undergraduate students.

As a Pre-Professional Scholar, you won’t get your undergraduate degree any faster, but you will have a sense of security allowing you to follow courses of study that reflect your educational interests. Without the pressure to compete for admission to professional school, you will also feel free to participate in non-academic activities.

Application
PPSP applicants must apply to Case as a first year student and complete the PPSP application (available with Case’s Common Application Supplement). PPSP applicants show a high level of engagement and understanding of the chosen profession; a distinguished high school record; high scores on the SAT or ACT; and a record of personal accomplishments that attests to superb interpersonal skills, maturity, and leadership. PPSP admission is very competitive, but there is neither a minimum GPA nor minimum SAT/ACT scores in order to be considered, and essays, recommendations, and other subjective criteria are important in the selection process.

Note: You will hear about your admission to Case prior to hearing about your acceptance into PPSP. It is possible for a student to be admitted to the university, but denied acceptance into PPSP.

Interview at Case
PPSP applicants who are selected for interviews are invited to visit Case in late March or early April. On-campus interviews are conducted with admission officers and faculty at the appropriate Case professional school. After interviews have been completed, admission staff confer with each professional school to decide which finalists will be offered places in their programs.

Due to the complex nature of the screening process, there is no wait list or appeal process for PPSP. In addition, PPSP is only available for incoming first year students. Not getting accepted into PPSP does not limit your professional school or career options because Case offers the same education, professional school preparation and opportunities to all students.

Independent Admission Decision
The PPSP selection committee acts independently of the undergraduate admission committee; the PPSP committee’s decision does not affect your chances of getting admitted to Case. There is no early action plan for PPSP and the early action admission option is not available if you apply for PPSP.

PPSP applicants are first reviewed for admission to Case. Then, admitted applicants are reviewed in committee to determine PPSP status. If an admitted PPSP applicant is not ultimately selected for the program, the offer of admission to Case still stands. In short, you will be notified of your admission to Case well before you are notified of your acceptance into PPSP.

Admission to PPSP is highly competitive. Many outstanding students who are not selected for PPSP are admitted to Case’s freshman class. They still choose to attend Case for its challenging and thorough educational programs and apply in the usual way to professional school.

There are many excellent reasons to prepare for professional school at Case even if you are not selected for PPSP, including:
• variety of majors
• small classes
• experiential learning programs
• undergraduate research opportunities
• access to the resources of University Circle institutions
• exposure to your field of study through internship, co-operative learning and volunteering opportunities
• excellent pre-professional advising resources and close interaction with faculty
